Nelson Bay

209KM North of Sydney is the main town of stunning Port Stephens: Nelson Bay. This beautiful seaside town is home to pristine beaches and offers a tempting array of water-based activities. The beaches are lined with excellent restaurants, and Nelson Bay Marina offers a variety of exciting boat trips.

A short distance from the town centre you will find the idyllic Bagnalls Beach, home to soft white sand and crystal clear water. Take in the sensational coastal views by cycling from Bagnalls Beach along the Bartlett cycleway to Little Beach. The scenic 5KM track ends close to the Nelson Head lighthouse cottage. The cafe located at the heritage-listed cottage is a delightful spot for lunch or coffee with fantastic views out to the water.

There are plenty of dolphins who call the waters by Nelson Bay home, and dolphin-watching cruises offer a lovely opportunity to see them. This is also one of the best places on the New South Wales coast to spot migrating humpback whales from May-September, and whale-spotting cruises are also available. Many of the area's most tempting activities are water-based, and from Nelson Bay Marina, you can also opt to go out on a fishing charter or go parasailing, sailing, snorkelling, or diving. Dip your head under the water to discover a vibrant world of bright corals, sponge gardens, turtles, and plenty of different fish to swim alongside.

Spend a peaceful evening on a gorgeous sunset cruise, or dining in a delicious waterside restaurant with breathtaking sea views.
