If you’ve made your way into the beautiful forest of Illawarra make a stop to the Wollongong Botanic Gardens, located at the base of Mount Keira. Within the gardens, there are guided walks throughout rose gardens, rainforest areas, and an azalea bank. There is also a creek and a small lake, perfect for spending some time in tranquility. At the creek, you’ll find a Japanese style wooden bridge that was gifted by the Japanese city of Kawasaki, which is also the sister city to Wollongong.

The gardens also share grounds with the Gleniffer Brae Manor House and the Puckey’s Estate Nature Reserve. At times there will be activities taking place in the gardens, including workshops, theatre, and cinema screenings. There is also a playground for children complete with a sandpit, swings, and a maze for them to play and discover all that the gardens have to offer.
