The Giant Stairway

While you’re visiting Echo Point to experience the Three Sisters, the Giant Stairway is a beautiful way to explore the sweeping views and crisp mountain air surrounding the rock formations. It acts as an entry and exit point beside the Three Sisters and is an adventurous way to see the rock formations. The general walk taken begins at Echo Point and ends at Scenic World, it is 3.1 kilometres and takes about three hours one way.
The Giant Stairway is a dramatic entrance to the Jamison Valley, with over 800 steps and a 300-metre drop. As you descend into the valley, marvel at the Three Sisters stepping down the stone and steel stairs, created in 1909. After you’ve taken the stairs, take a comfortable walk along the Federal Pass to Katoomba Falls. The stairway leads you to Scenic World, which is where the Scenic Railway departs from, which means if you feel like sitting back and taking in the scenery, this is the perfect option. Plan your trip accordingly with the final train departing at 4.50pm. While it is a very popular walk, having the choice to return on foot or by the railway makes it a very rewarding experience. However, if you have a fear of heights, the walk may be a little overwhelming for you. It is considered to be one of the more challenging tracks due to all the stairs too.
If you choose to base yourself in Katoomba, walk the Giant Stairway and see the Three Sisters up close.
