The Big Merino
You can’t leave Goulburn without stopping for a photo with The Big Merino. A 15.2-metre statue in the shape of a large, concrete merino ram commemorates the influence of the merino wool industry in this rural town. The statue has since evolved over the years, and the owners have created a complex around it where you can learn about the wool industry, take photographs, and even purchase fine goods from the gift shop.
Lovingly nicknamed “Rambo”, the wool statue was opened to the public in 1985. It has since served as an educational service and gift shop for tourists to come and learn about various collections of wool and knitwear. You’ll be able to take home fine garments and other souvenir items that are one of a kind. There is also a 200 Year History of Wool in Australia exhibition on display to take you through the process of wool in Australia.
