One of Port Macquarie’s most popular and most important attractions is the Koala Hospital. The hospital is a product of the Koala Conservation Australia Incorporated, which is a not-for-profit organisation and is mostly ran by volunteers.
Between 200-250 sick and injured koalas are admitted annually to receive treatment and rehabilitation. The Koala Hospital also carries out research into diseases affecting koalas, as well as providing training facilities.
Admission is free and allows visitors to wander the grounds, and see the adorable koalas being treated. Complimentary guided tours run daily and offer the opportunity to watch koala feeding and learn about issues affecting koalas, and the conservation of Australia’s koala population from knowledgeable guides.
Whilst entry and tours are free of charge, any donations, koala adoptions, and purchases from the koala shop help the koala hospital to continue to care for our koala population, carry out research, and increase public awareness.
