If you venture north from Byron Bay Main Beach, after a short stroll you will find yourself on the quieter but just as lovely Belongil Beach. This 2.5KM stretch is those looking for a little peace from the busy man beach. If you look out to sea, you should spot a small part of a shipwreck peeking out of the water – this is the rudder bar from SS Wollongbar, and is known locally as ‘The Wreck’.
Belongil Beach is patrolled during the summer months, making an ideal place to swim, and the waves also make it a popular spot for surfers of all levels of ability. There is an off-leash area that’s perfect for bringing your dog for some exercise.
You will find several accommodation options located extremely close to the beach, if you decide to base yourself by Belongil Beach for longer, as well as a couple of quirky cafes.
