Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum

Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, Howick Street, Bathurst NSW, Australia

Created out a love for the act of discovery, the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum was founded by Warren Somerville. His collection of crystals, fossils and minerals over sixty years has created one of the greatest museums in Australia and around the world. Making a stop to visit when you’re in the town of Bathurst will have you exploring an underground world.

The museum exists in an 1876 Public School building, adding to the historical feel exuded by the crystals and location. You’ll find over hundreds of minerals and fossils, including incredibly large Amethyst crystals and smaller exquisite, rare crystals. The array of colours and shapes will have you dazzled. Fossils will take you through the history of the Earth from its very beginning to a thousand years ago. Fossils will show various plant and animal specimens, including an egg of an Elephant bird and a large Tyrannosaurus Rex.
