With over 80,000 tourists each year visiting Lightning Ridge, one of the main attractions in town would have to be the Artesian Baths. These outdoor, circular pools sit under the open sky, and as the sunsets watch the night stars twinkle above you. As the water bubbles away, it is continually streaming hot water direct from the Great Artesian Basin. The baths are on Pandora Street and are open 24 hours a day.
The bore baths came about from an artesian bore that sunk in 1960, now providing a constant stream of mineralised water going down to 900 metres below the surface.
While visiting Lightning Ridge, experience these incredible baths whether it’s summer or winter, enjoy the astonishing mineral water sitting at a constant 40 to 50 degrees. The Great Artesian Basin is considered to be around two million years old and is one of the largest freshwater basins in the world.
